Sound Sculptures is a new way of packaging vinyl records that maintains the protective and aesthetic properties of traditional vinyl record albums but brings it into a new dimension. This product is partnered with Indie artist Frances Forever and highlights their newest EP: Paranoia Party. Their most popular song: “Space Girl” is showcased in this limited-edition 3D packaging wherein the protective vinyl envelope can be easily popped out and assembled into a dimensional display stand, centering the viny record as a planet with many rings encircling it and propping it up. This reusable packaging drastically reduces the environmental impact of otherwise wholly wasted packaging.
Personas
Prototype
Originally, the prototypes had more planetary rings to give better support to the vinyl. As prototypes were developed, however, sturdier material was decided on and a more minimalist approach was taken to highlight the vinyl and make the sculpture look more gravity-defying.

Style Explorations
While I wanted to incorporate some of the retro-futurism of my moldboard, I wanted to keep it clean and graphic. Instead of incorporating a picture collage, I opted to bring in interest with textured brushes and grain to give a better tactile sensation and bring in interest without overwhelming the design.

Logotype
The final logotype was classic yet futuristic. The logo highlights the dynamic and elegant nature of the final product as well as acting as a guide for how the user would assemble the product.
Final Flat Files
The final packaging was made so the planetary rings would be perforated and the consumer could pop them out and attach the rings together, holding the vinyl record in the center. Additionally, the record label was created to match the branding and tie in the record itself.
